Console Wars: Playstation 3 vs Xbox 360

Posted on Mar 14, 2008 10:04:54 AM

Sony vs Microsoft…who would win? Who knows since they are both large businesses and they both sell a ton of different products. However, if you put it as Playstation vs Xbox there is a clear current winner in the race. According to NPD (who by the way is the most legitimate and trustworthy marketing source out there) as of February here are the results in the ongoing console war:

Top Consoles purchased:

  • PlayStation 3 - 280,800
  • Xbox 360 - 254,60
  • So as you can plainly see PS3 is indeed beating out the Microsoft Xbox 360 by a little less than 30,000 units. As another little tidbit of information the PS2 is stomping them both by about 80,000 units and the original Xbox didn’t even make the list! This information will of course piss off many Xbox fans, and spark even more forum trash talk throughout the internet. Why gamers feel they need to take a side instead of enjoy the technology of both is beyond me. But who am I to stop a 12 year old from battling for his/her passion? Anyway, lets take a look at the top selling games of the year so far.

    Top-Selling Games:

    1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360) - 296,200
    2. Devil May Cry 4: (Xbox 360) - 295,200
    3. Wii Play - 289,700
    4. Devil May Cry 4 (PS3) - 233,500
    5. Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock (Wii) - 222,900

In case you looked at those numbers like “uhh what am I looking for?”, take a look at the top 2 games. They are both Xbox 360 games, and they sold more than the actual console itself. So Xbox 360 does have the top 2 selling games at the moment, but they are losing their flare on console sales. Just to take a stab at you either way…whether or not you are PS3 fan, Xbox 360 fan, or both…Nintendo is really stomping them both by over 500,000+ console sales. Yes…those kiddie graphics, novelty based gameplay, and games like Ninjabread Man are defeating two systems that come closest to PC gaming. Wtf?! ;)

    Netflix on PS3 & Xbox 360 Just a Rumor!

    Posted on Feb 12, 2008 05:08:57 PM

It seems that there are a lot of blogs out there claiming that Netflix is going to extend their streaming video features to the Playstation 3 & Xbox 360. I have to say that these reports hold no facts, and they are merely based on hearsay. It’s basically like those stories you heard as a kid like “I know this guy who knows a guy who…”, which is just complete garbage. I feel obligated to put a little reality into this situation. Keep the rumors in third grade will ya?

Now I am not against this happening, but I just don’t think it is going to happen anytime soon. It kind of pisses me off that people report things like this to hype people up when in the end there is a great chance that Netflix will never even act on this. I mean they don’t even rent games so why are they concerned with the gaming market? I feel that if they really want to up their game and service…they should offer video game rentals first…not downloadable movies to your PS3 and Xbox 360. They could make so much more off of that rather than selling movie rentals. Watch out, you may see a blog claiming that soon!…lol. So will it happen? Sure it could happen, but until Netflix announces something publicly don’t get your hopes up. Too many reports like this cause a big craze, and then just lead to a big let down for those who were excited about it. Just keep your eyes and ears open, and don’t rely on the current stories or discussions that are floating around. It’s just pointless…

    Rock Band…Rocks It!

    Posted on Feb 3, 2008 11:34:29 AM

I have played a LOT of games throughout my life, and I must say that Rock Band is one of the coolest games I have ever seen. I purchased the special edition version last night, which comes with the official Rock Band microphone, drums, and guitar. It wasn’t cheap, but was well worth the money once I got home and started jamming Weezer - “Say It Ain’t So” with my girlfriend. We both played Rock Band for about 2 hours straight! Any gamer/rock fan can certainly appreciate the time put into this game and the replay value is extremely high. There are tons of songs to learn, plus unlockable songs, plus songs you can purchase on the PS3 Network or Xbox Live for a reasonable price. It has also been confirmed by an EA CEO that Rock Band will make its way to the Nintendo Wii in the near future, although no release date has been set yet. Overall, I give this game a 9/10. The only reason I didn’t give it a full 10 is because the graphics aren’t exactly spectacular, but the game play more than makes up for this. You should definitely give this game a shot if you haven’t already…it truly rocks!

Grand Theft Auto 4 - Coming Soon!

    Posted on Feb 2, 2008 02:57:41 PM

The extremely well-known Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series is coming back for another go. This is of course no surprise since they have had tons of success in the past. Despite all the soccer moms ranting and raving over the violence and sexual content, Rockstar games is still going strong. Grand Theft Auto 4 should be the best yet in the series not only graphically, but with the game play as well. This is truly going to be one awesome game! The game will be released for the Playstation 3 (PS3) and Xbox 360 on April 29th, 2008. I highly recommend claiming a copy of this game now, so you can be sure that you will be one of the first people to play it. There are two different options you can go with when purchasing the game. They have the regular version, and a special edition. What’s different in the special edition? It Includes the Grand Theft Auto IV Art Book for the hardcore fans, a soundtrack CD packed with awesome tunes, an exclusive (and really cool) Rockstar keychain, and a limited edition Rockstar duffel bag. This is all packed inside of a Grand Theft Auto metal safety deposit box and of course comes with a key. It’s actually really cool and is only $30 more than the regular edition game. So if you are a long time fan of the series such as myself, I am sure you will want the special edition. Reserve your copies today are you could find yourself waiting to play GTA 4 for quite sometime after its release. Looking for a place to get it? No problem just click the links below.
