Command & Conquer: Tiberium

command_and_conquer_3_tiberium_wars_1.jpgSo…when I first heard about Tiberium I was actually kind of shocked to learn that they would be leaving the RTS genre behind, but happy at the same time. I’m a huge fan of RTS games, in fact I still play Warcraft III (hit me up on bnet my name is aDeeperShallow ;) ), but leaving the genre to put out something fresh and new was much needed for EA’s mega hit game. They have released 15 titles for the series, but that number is counting expansion pack releases which are pretty much a given with every successful RTS game released. Still though that number is pretty massive with very little change. Sure the games look better and have new units…but in the end all you are doing is working your micro and upgrading faster than your opponent. With that said, I am super excited to see a FPS game come out of all of this. The story’s behind the games have always been at least decent if not great so I have no doubts that Tiberium will follow this pattern. I have yet to really see much gameplay in action, but I have seen plenty of screenshots. The game looks really cool as the graphics are top notch and it simply looks fun. The game will be coming to Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and of course Windows PC. The release date is set between July and September of this year. Let’s just hope nothing changes and gets the release date pushed any further because I really want to give this one a whirl. This could be a great move on their part for attracting new players to the series. I’m not saying it will be as big as the Warcraft III to World of Warcraft change, but it will have the same effect in my opinion. I think the popularity of the series will skyrocket after this release. Hopefully, the game stands up to the standards that have been created by the anticipation of the release. If not, then we could be looking at another Command & Conquer bundle pack sitting very close to the bargain bin. We’ll see pretty soon…but not soon enough!
